A simple and efficient protocol has been developed for the synthesis of 2-arylbenzoxazole derivatives of potential pharmaceutical interest. The method involves reaction between 2-aminophenol and substituted aromatic aldehydes in the presence of anhydrous bismuth trichloride as catalyst in acetonitrile. The use of eco-friendly bismuth trichloride, overall mild reaction conditions, and moderate to good yield of products are some attractive features of this methodology.
